Pollokshields: O poder da Comunidade // Pollokshields: The power of the Community #Pollockshields #RefugeesWelcome #Glasgow #HHRR #Scotland #PeopleMakeGlasgow

A xente fai Glasgow e Glasgow fai á xente. As vidas dos refuxiados, importan.

David Cameron gives evidence - Commons Treasury Committee - #PublicAccounts #Greenfell #LexGreensill #UK

Appearing virtually before the Commons Treasury Committee, he insisted there was “absolutely no wrongdoing” in his actions and defended his lobbying efforts, but accepted that former prime ministers “need to think differently and act differently”.

David Cameron: “I had a big economic investment in the future of Greensill, so I wanted the business to succeed, I wanted it to grow. The fact that I have this economic interest ... that’s important, but I don’t think the amount is particularly germane to answering those questions, and as far as I’m concerned it’s a private matter.”

Global figures rally in support of jailed former UK ambassador and #HHRR activist #CraigMurray #Scotland #Trial #FreedomofSpeech #Justice

Professor Noam Chomsky and award-winning journalist and documentary filmmaker John Pilger have spoken out (Tuesday) against a prison sentence imposed on the human rights activist and former UK diplomat Craig Murray.
Mr Murray was sentenced to eight months imprisonment at the High Court in Edinburgh (Scotland) today after being convicted of Contempt of Court over his reporting of the previous trial of the former First Minister of Scotland, Alex Salmond, in 2020.
The High Court ruled that Mr Murray’s coverage of the Salmond trial led to so-called “jigsaw identification” of complainers who made allegations against the former First Minister. A jury acquitted Mr Salmond on all charges on 23rd March 2020.
It is believed to be the first instance in Scottish legal history where “jigsaw identification” has led to an individual being imprisoned.
Writer, journalist and documentary filmmaker John Pilger said, “In these dark times, Craig Murray's truth-telling is a beacon. He is owed our debt of gratitude, not the travesty of a prison sentence which, like the prosecution of Julian Assange, is a universal warning.”
Professor Noam Chomsky added, “Craig Murray has compiled a remarkable record of courage and integrity in exposing crimes of state and working to bring them to an end. He fully merits our deep respect and support for his achievements.”
Respected British journalist and author Yvonne Ridley said that Mr Murray was ultimately paying the price of holding truth to power.
"I first became aware of Craig Murray in his role as Britain's ambassador in Uzbekistan when he heroically exposed human rights atrocities meted out to dissidents,” Ridley said.
“As a result of his intervention the world learned how the regime tortured and boiled alive some of its political prisoners. Instead of being praised he was subjected by the Foreign Office to a humiliating disciplinary investigation, had his personal life publicly shredded and suffered a string of health problems,” said Ridley.
“That is the price he paid for holding truth to power back in 2002 and the fact he is still shining a light on injustices two decades later is to his credit,” Ridley added.
“Now it appears he has fallen foul of contempt laws through claims of jigsaw identification. Sending him to prison because he has upset the Establishment - yet again - proves nothing more than the law is an ass,” Ridley said.
Scotland’s former Justice Secretary, Kenny MacAskill MP, who is himself a lawyer added, “This is a sad day for Scottish Justice. The idea that all problems emanate from Westminster is absurd. There are deep rooted structures and historic inequalities that scar Scotland. They require changed and that cannot await independence, especially when those legal structures are already devolved.”
Solicitor Advocate, Gordon Dangerfield (who does not represent Mr Murray) said, “The way in which Craig Murray has been singled out by the prosecuting authorities in this case is a national scandal which should concern anyone who cares about the rule of law in Scotland. The whole concept of 'jigsaw identification' also needs to be rethought and I fully support Craig's appeal.”
Mr Murray’s legal team now plan to launch an appeal against his conviction and sentencing.

Where is the Alba Party, BBC? // Onde está o Alba Party, BBC? #BBCbias #Holyrood2021

The cheeky ALBA Party have cocked a snook at BBC bias.

Tonight they have projected the ALBA symbol onto the Headquarters of the BBC in Scotland. This pawky protest is against the BBC Scotland decision to ban Alex Salmond from the television debates.

ALBA Campaign Manager and Lead Candidate for West Scotland Cllr Chris McEleny said

“The BBC apparatchiks may take our debating lines but they cannot take away our freedom to make a fool of their attempts at censorship.

"By depriving ALBA of our proper position in the debates and in their news output they have exposed themselves as unfit to be Scotland’s public service broadcaster.

When ALBA’s community based campaign proves successful BBC bosses will spend the next five years explaining why their attempts to rig an election left them with egg on their faces and the ALBA symbol on their building”

Scottish Alba Women and the MSM blackout // As mulleres do Alba Party e a censura dos medios de comunicación #Holyrood2021 #Women #WomensRights #Scotland #Mulleres

Recórdavos a algo?

Nothing annoys me more about Women's event than them being boycotted and silenced by the Media... so, here you go....

Speaking after the socially distanced photo-call of ALBA Women Candidates outside the Scottish Parliament today (Sunday), where 15  of ALBA's women candidates took part and were joined by around another 100 women who 'voted with their feet' and placed shoes outside the Parliament as a symbolic gesture for Women's rights.

ALBA Lead Candidate for Central Scotland Tasmina Ahmed-Sheikh said:

"Today ALBA's women candidates came to the Scottish Parliament to proclaim their support for Women's sex-based rights and vowed if elected on Thursday 6 May, to work every day to be that strong voice for Women's equality inside the chamber and the committees of the Scottish Parliament.

"ALBA's women MSPs will be a determined voice for Women and girls wherever they live in Scotland.  We will speak up on all policies which affect us as we are no longer prepared to be abused or silenced.  The ALBA Party will maintain and preserve our sex-based protections as set out in the Equality Act of 2010.

"Women have a right to organise ourselves as women, according to our sex, across the range of cultural, leisure, educational and political activities.  We have a right to our single-sex spaces.

"However, in 2021, women in Scotland still struggle for equality - for equal access to education for equal Employment Opportunities, for equal support for our health needs.  We suffer from sex based violence and from sex based inequality and it's time to change once and for all. To shake things up for women.

"So the ALBA Party will ensure our female only spaces such as changing rooms, hospital wards, our toilets, our showers, sleeping accommodation, refuges, hostels and prisons are protected and maintained as ours.  The ALBA Party will protect our right as women, to refuse consent to males entering our single-sex spaces.

“Women matter to ALBA and their sex based rights will always be preserved and protected by us, and only by us. Our message to women across Scotland is loud and clear - 'For Scotland, For Women - Vote ALBA'.  As more and more women hear that call so support for ALBA will rise between now and polling day.”
